KKP: Indonesian Fisheries Exports Reach 2.8 Billion US Dollars

Marketing Director of the Directorate General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Erwin Dwiyana said that Indonesian fishery exports in January-June 2023 were recorded at around 2.8 billion US dollars. Based on export value, the most exported commodities after shrimp are tuna and tiger prawns, many of which are sent to Japan.

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries noted that in the January-April 2023 period, shrimp exports reached US$567 million, followed by tuna-skipjack-fin with an export value of US$282 million, and squid-octopus with an export value of US$282 million. worth US$195 million.

“Most of the squid, cuttlefish and octopus are exported to China plus seaweed commodities,” said Erwin.

He said the potential for fisheries production in Indonesia could reach 12 million tons per year. This figure is expected to continue to move due to various activities in the capture and aquaculture production sectors.

Erwin explained that next November a series of Foreign Buyers Missions would be held to open access for potential shrimp buyers from various countries.

This event is a collaboration between the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and the Swiss Import Promotion Program (SIPPO) which aims to bring in prospective shrimp importers so they can see firsthand shrimp processing units in Indonesia.

“From there an agreement will be reached which will certainly open access and increase our exports,” he said.

Erwin said, to maximize exports of Indonesian fishery products, KKP developed the slogan “Indonesia Seafood: Naturally Diverse” which describes Indonesia as naturally having various types of fish for export.

The government through the KKP, said Erwin, is also encouraging sustainable fisheries production so that the potential of Indonesian fisheries can also be enjoyed by future generations.
