Intensively Aiming at the Fisheries Export Market

The year 2022 has proven to be a momentum for acceleration, where a 10.66 percent increase in the value of fisheries exports was recorded in the January-November period. The government continues to promote branding of Indonesian fishery products with the tagline “Indonesia Seafood: Naturally Diverse” and the subtagline “Safe and Sustainable” at various exhibitions and international meetings.

Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono is targeting fishery exports in 2023 of USD7.66 billion. Apart from exports, gross domestic product growth is also targeted at 5-6 percent, then the fish consumption figure is 61.02 kg/capita.

Not only that, Minister Trenggono also targets salt production of 1.5 million tons, the exchange rate for fishermen reaching 107-108, and the compliance percentage of KP business actors at 97 percent, completion of spatial planning and coastal zoning plans in 32 regions.

Apart from that, there are also several export commodities that have their own product branding, including “Indonesia Seaweed, Natural Binding Solutions to The World” for seaweed, “Indonesian Pangasius, The Better Choice” for catfish, “Indonesia Tuna, Sustainable by Tradition : One-by-One” for tuna, and “Indonesian Shrimp, Discover the Taste of 17,000 Islands” for shrimp.

Furthermore, Ishartini revealed that the value of fisheries exports is estimated to grow 8.84% with a value of USD 6.22 billion by December 2022 compared to the end of 2021. Investment realization in the 3-2022 quarter reached IDR 6.39 trillion or an increase of 45.62 percent compared to the same period. the previous year and spread to a number of areas such as East Java, DKI Jakarta, South Sulawesi and Central Java.

Ishartini added that the People’s Republic of China is the largest country investing in the maritime and fisheries sector, apart from Singapore, the British Virgin Islands and Japan. Apart from recording achievements on the macro side, the KKP also shows its support for MSME processors and fishery product marketers, farmers and fishermen.

This is offered by disbursing people’s business credit (KUR) amounting to IDR 9.02 trillion as of November 2022 and is targeted to reach IDR 9.7 trillion by the end of the year. As a result, 38.6 percent of business actors were able to add new workers after obtaining capital from KUR. Then there were 83.16 percent of business actors who were able to increase their production volume and 90.08 percent of business actors succeeded in achieving an increase in monthly turnover.
